Enter and Work in Confined Spaces

Overview

The aim of this course is to provide participants with information and knowledge that enable them to identify, assess and safely enter and work in a confined space. This unit covers entering and working in confined spaces, planning and preparing for entry of confined spaces, entry and working in confined spaces, exiting confined spaces and cleaning up.

Course objectives:
The main objectives of the Enter and Work in Confined Spaces are:

Showing a competent understanding of:

  • What is a confined space;
  • Identifying and controlling of hazards;
  • Relevant legislation;
  • Roles and responsibilities of management and employees;
  • Risk assessment and hierarchy of hazards;
  • Confined space permits;
  • Work site policy and procedures;
  • Lockout and tagout methods of isolation;
  • Confined space entry;
  • Safety and emergency procedures; and
  • PPE

Entry requirements

To be permitted entry to this course you must:

  • Be 18 years old or have authorised parental/guardian consent to be eligible to complete this course;
  • Have current  photo I.D and a Unique Student Identifier (USI);
  • Be wearing enclosed footwear, appropriate work clothes and have remove all jewellery.

All learning resources will be provided to students on the day; including pens and examination papers.

Foundation skills

Foundation skills are skills pertaining to language, literacy, numeracy and employability skills. You will be required to undertake a short language, literacy and numeracy test (LLN) prior to your  enrolment. The purpose of this test is to ascertain comprehensive proficiency levels against the performance criteria of this unit of competency.

Qualification: Statement of Attainment – training in Enter and Work in Confined Spaces

Career pathway: There are no formal pathways for this course.  However the unit covered provide credits toward a number of Certificate II or III qualifications in the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package.
